Sleep Apnea Testing
Get Tested in the Comfort of Your Own Bed!
We aim to allow people in Michigan to live better and healthier lives. Michigan Sleep Wellness contributes to the overall well-being of our patients by testing, diagnosing, and treating sleep disorders. Our clinic brings experience to treating sleep disorders through dental sleep medicine.
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that impacts a high percentage of the community in Michigan and the U.S. However, most patients that suffer aren’t fully aware of their condition. In fact, almost 90% of cases of obstructive sleep apnea are untreated. This means millions of Americans suffer from a treatable condition.
Testing presents a barrier to sleep apnea diagnosis and treatment. Patients don’t know how or where to get tested or are under the impression that you can only test for sleep apnea in a lab. Our team offers testing and diagnosis services out of our clinic. We use at-home tests that allow patients to get started with sleep apnea treatments by completing a sleep study at home.
Overview of Sleep Apnea Testing
Sleep studies are designed to diagnose whether the patient has sleep apnea accurately. There are different types of sleep apnea tests. We use at-home tests with the WatchPat One device.
During an at-home test, you will wear a device such as the WatchPat One, which has sensors for your wrist, finger, and chest. You will wear the device during your normal sleep routine. These devices are solely designed to test for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) rather than more rare types such as central sleep apnea. This test is affordable, easy to use, and accurate at diagnosing OSA. We offer these tests at Michigan Sleep Wellness.
In rare cases, patients could be referred to an in-lab test. During an in-lab sleep study (polysomnography), you will spend a night in a sleep lab. Medical professionals will set up sensors to monitor your sleep activity. While these tests are accurate for diagnosing sleep disorders, they require that you spend an overnight stay away from home, are expensive when not covered by insurance, and often require months-long waiting lists.
Our team of sleep professionals will advise you on the right sleep testing options. For most patients, an at-home test using the WatchPat One is the right option and the best use of resources.

Oral Appliance Therapy
Our sleep professionals at the Michigan Sleep Wellness focus on diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.
Our testing process leads to accurate diagnoses. Here are some of the most common sleeping disorders that we treat.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA):
OSA is characterized by repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep due to the partial or complete collapse of the upper airway. A sleep test can confirm sleep apnea as the cause and allow you to get treated as soon as possible.
Snoring
Snoring is the harsh sound when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing a vibration as you breathe. Most adults and some children snore occasionally, but it can be a chronic problem for some. While often considered a common annoyance and disrupter of sleep, persistent snoring may indicate an underlying sleep disorder. A sleep test is needed because snoring alone can be treated, but it often is a symptom of or can lead to OSA.
Other types of sleep apnea include central sleep apnea (CSA) and mixed sleep apnea. These are specialized cases that may require a unique testing and treatment platform.
How the At-Home Test Works

Frequently Asked Questions
How many tests must I take to get diagnosed with sleep apnea?
A single WatchPat One at-home test is all that most patients need to receive an accurate diagnosis. As long as the test has enough data and is high-quality, no follow-up tests will be required to begin treatment. In rare cases, an additional test or a referral to a sleep lab may be appropriate. The WatchPat One test is designed to accurately test for obstructive sleep apnea, the most common type. After an at-home test, our team will discuss your diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Are at-home tests accurate?
At-home tests are clinically proven to be accurate at diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The WatchPat One is FDA-approved to test for OSA. This condition is the most common form of sleep apnea and the one that we treat with oral appliance therapy. You can be assured that at-home tests are accurate to diagnose your condition. These tests also offer other benefits, such as being low-cost and accessible and not requiring you to spend a night in a sleep lab. For some patients, an in-lab test may be required. Schedule a consultation to learn more about which test is right for you.
